Truck veers off road while descending Galenkui Hill at Ho Bankoe, 2 injured

A cargo truck, which was reportedly speeding while descending the Galenkui Hill at Ho Bankoe in the Volta on Saturday, veered into the left lane and then onto the pavement before crashing into a shop at the Ho Civic Centre, leaving two people severely injured.

The injured persons, a man and a woman, who were not immediately identified were taken to the hospital.

Some motorists who witnessed the incident said the truck’s brakes may have failed.

One and a half years ago, a similar accident involving a mini-bus, which was descending the Galenkui Hill towards Ho-Bankoe collided head-on with a heavy-duty truck from the opposite direction, killing 10 people on the spot.

The driver of the truck, with registration number GE 5963-23, was nowhere to be found after the incident.

Two men who were in a tricycle, which was hit by the truck escaped unhurt.
