Asuogyaman District targets 100% pass in BECE
The Asuogyaman District Directorate of Education, with support from a philanthropist and citizen of the area, Mr Paul Asare Ansah, is working to attain 100 per cent pass in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the district under a project known as “Agenda 100 per cent in 2019 BECE in Asuogyaman’’.
In support of the project, Mr Ansah has since 2017 presented a quantity of educational materials to the assembly for distribution to final-year students as part of their preparation towards the BECE every year.
Evening classes
Mr Ansah, has also liaised with the district directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to sponsor evening for pupils from primary classes four to junior high school form three.

This is in addition to organising spelling competitions in both basic and senior high schools in the district and encouraging students and pupils to make effective use of library facilities in the basic schools, with yearly awards for excellent performance during speech and prize-giving days.
This year, Mr Ansah has made a similar presentation to the 1,754 candidates writing the BECE in the district, which will take place from June 10-14.
The items, which cost GH¢ȼ100,000, were made up of 2,000 mathematical sets, 10,000 pens, 10,000 exercise books for the candidates and 1,000 Core Mathematics textbooks for the junior high schools.
Making the presentation to candidates at VRA Complex Schools at Akosombo, Mr Ansah, who is a former Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), said his main aim and objective was to help the education directorate to improve on the BECE results to enhance quality education in the area, to enable the students to pursue secondary education.
BECE results
Mr Ansah recalled that in 2017 when he motivated the candidates through extra classes and other forms of support, the district recorded 67.3 per cent pass that year, and that improved to 73.1 per cent in 2018, stressing that: “This year, we are targeting either 100 per cent or at least 90 per cent in the BECE.”
Mr Ansah also supported the best 15 BECE candidates who passed with aggregates six to 15 last year with all items in their prospectus to go to senior high school.

He has increased the number to 50 this year.
Appreciation
The Asuogyaman District Director of Education, Mrs Theodora Kutorkor Entee, who received the items on behalf of the candidates, praised Mr Ansah for his continuous support and passion for quality education delivery in the district.
The DCE for Asuogyaman, Mr Samuel Kwame Agyekum, lauded Mr Ansah for supporting the district assembly in diverse ways and appealed to other well-meaning citizens of Asuogyaman to emulate his shining example.
