OMSU 1974/76 supports alma mater with bookshelves
Members of the 1974/76-year group of the Old Mawuli Students’ Union (OMSU) have donated 15 imported bookshelves worth GH¢21,000 to the library of their alma mater.
This coincided with the 50th anniversary of the year group.
“We are back to the campus to roost and to express our heartfelt gratitude to the school that nurtured our secondary education and put us on the journey of life-long achievements,” the Executive Chairman of OMSU 74/76, Gershon Kumor, said as he represented the shelves.
He said the year group was inspired by the school motto: “Head, Heart, Hand”, to contribute its quota to the service of humanity.
Mr Kumor said the year group did not disappoint Mawuli School, as it produced some of the best professionals the country could boast of.
“They include engineers, doctors, administrators, military officers, bankers and university professors who have all excelled in their chosen fields of endeavour,” he added.
Mr Kumor said the bookshelves were to serve as the group’s modest contribution to the education of the students.
Receiving the shelves, the Headmaster, Benjamin Yawo Dei, said the school was thrilled by the donation, adding that many books would now find space for easy reference.
He said the shelves would enhance teaching and learning at the school.
“Your contribution serves as a shining example of the values instilled in you during your time here; compassion, generosity, and community spirit,” said the headmaster.
He said the group’s kindness and commitment to giving back to the school were highly commendable, saying that the school looked forward to continued collaboration and support from the vibrant OMSU community.
Career Guidance
Prior to the donation, the group held a career guidance session for the students.
The presentations focused on recruitment in the armed forces, merchant and navy, and requirements for the law professions.
