The equipment include generators, incinerators and other needed supplies for the Tema, Kumasi and Tamale treatment centres, all at a cost of $325,000.

The Vice-President of Kosmos, Mr Ken Keag, who was at the Flagstaff House in Accra yesterday to announce the gesture, said “although Ghana has not yet had a confirmed case of Ebola, it is important for the nation to be prepared”.

He was accompanied by the Minister of Health, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, and some officials of Kosmos.

Mr Keag was received by the Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur.

Mr Keag, who is also the Country Manager of Kosmos, told the Vice-President that the donation of the equipment was the result of extensive discussions with the Ministry of Health to know Ghana’s needs and preparedness level.

Concern

Mr Keag expressed concern over the devastating effect of the Ebola virus and acknowledged the key role Ghana was playing in the sub-region to prevent its further spread.

Vice-President

Mr Amissah-Arthur expressed appreciation to Kosmos for the gesture and reiterated his call on the public to reduce bodily contact as a first step to guarding against the virus.

He said Ghana set up the three containment centres in the spirit of preparedness and stressed the need to step up public education on the virus.

“We need to raise the level of awareness, since Ebola has become a major factor in our economic development,” he averred.
