Accra floods after downpour
Many parts of Accra were flooded Friday morning after the heavy rainfall. The downpour caused some drains to overflow their channels.
Waste materials, particularly plastic bottles swam effortlessly in the Odaw River near the former Orca Deco depot area through Agbogbloshie.
A resident, Hayford Osei who sent a video from the Kaneshie First Light area said vehicles and passengers had to struggle their way out of the flood waters.
The rain started at about 5:15 am and lasted for about three hours.
The rains accounted for the submerging of roads, houses and cars in various areas of the city.
The Ghana News Agency reported a lot of people who were travelling from home in the early hours of the day were stranded in traffic in all parts because the flood waters had covered major roads.
Some areas affected included Okponglo, Dzorwulu, Kaneshie, and Circle to mention a few due to the rains.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Meteorological Agency has warned there would also be heavy rains on Friday in the Central, Western and Brong Ahafo Regions.
In a statement in Accra on Friday, the Ghana Meteorological Agency said a thunderstorm and rain bearing cloud system located over the coast and middle sectors was expected to persist and would affect places in the selected Regions.
The Agency, which said, it did not forecast that parts of the country would experience heavy rains that could cause flooding, however warned residents around Alajo, Circle, Kaneshie, Mateheko, Nima, Dzorwulu, South Odorkor and Osu in the Accra Metropolis to be cautious as those places were flood prone.
