Adenta court remands TikTok user over alleged fake plot against Mahama
The Adenta Circuit Court has remanded a 30-year-old laundry attendant into police custody for allegedly publishing false information likely to cause fear and panic.
The accused, Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, is said to have uploaded a video on his TikTok account, @breakingnewsghana, in which he claimed that two military officers were plotting to assassinate President John Dramani Mahama.
The court did not take Razzaq’s plea and ordered that he be held in custody until his next appearance on February 9, 2026.
The prosecution is being led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo.
According to the prosecution, the complainant in the case is the Ghana Police Service.
The court was told that on January 20, 2026, Razzaq published the video and named Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph as the officers allegedly involved in the supposed assassination plot.
He was arrested the following day at Adjiringanor in the Greater Accra Region.
In his caution statement, Razzaq admitted to making the video but stated that he had never met the officers and did not know them personally.
He further claimed that he had “chanced upon a post on social media” alleging the plot, which he said prompted him to publish the video.
However, investigators said he failed to lead them to the source of the alleged social media post.
