‘Be prepared to serve if you aspire to lead
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), the Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, has called on people who want to be leaders to be prepared to be servants.
“As leaders, I will urge you to learn to apply the ‘servant leadership’ style of our Lord Jesus Christ when He washed the feet of His disciples,” he stated.

Rev. Prof. Martey’s advice was contained in a message read on his behalf at the induction of new officers of the PCG Choirs Union (PCGCU) at the Bethel Congregation of the church at OLA Estates in Cape Coast.
Set the example
He said the willingness of Jesus to humbly and unconditionally serve his followers in a lowly human task should be enough example for leaders to perform the most unpleasant of tasks for all humankind.
“No follower of Christ is to set himself above serving any human being. God observes His people and blesses those who honour Him by serving as conduits of His truth and examples of true spirituality,” he added.
Rev. Prof. Martey charged leaders of the church choir to lead the crusade in evangelism and church growth for the PCG through singing and praises.
Sermon
In his sermon, the Resident Minister of the OLA Bethel Congregation of the PCG, Rev. Prof. Seth Asare-Danso, chastised leaders who adopted clandestine measures to perpetuate their stay in power when their tenure in office was due.
He said such leaders were causing a lot of chaos across Africa because of their selfish interests.

He commended the national choirs union of the church for its role in the growth of the church and charged the new officers to put in measures to use singing as a special ministry to win souls for Christ.
Giving a farewell address, the outgoing National President of the PCGCU, Prof. Daniel Okae-Anti, asked Christians not to rely on their instincts but rather seek God’s direction in all their endeavours.
He thanked members of the union for giving him the chance to serve them in the past six years and promised to assist the new officers in the administration of the choirs union based on his experiences.
In his maiden address, the new President of the union, Brother T.K Akyea-Obeng, said he was aware of the responsibility bestowed on him and other officers of the union and called for support from all members to enable them to succeed.

“In our quest to move the union forward, we must have clarity of vision to see the difference between what is essential and what is merely desirable and then the courage to bring ‘Presbyterian discipline’ back under control and make it acceptable to the people,” he said.
He indicated that his administration had the aim to construct a hostel complex on the Abefiti campus of the Presbyterian University College and called for financial and material support to make the dream a reality.
