Cape Coast and surrounding areas to experience 5-hour planned power outage on January 20
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced a planned five-hour power outage for Cape Coast and surrounding communities on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
In a joint press release issued on Friday, January 16, GRIDCo and ECG explained that the temporary interruption is to allow for the completion and commissioning of upgrade works on a 66MVA power transformer at the Cape Coast Substation.
According to the statement, electricity supply will be interrupted from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm to enable engineers to carry out the final stages of the upgrade.
GRIDCo and ECG noted that the transformer upgrade will significantly enhance the substation’s capacity, leading to improved stability and reliability of power supply for homes and businesses within Cape Coast and neighbouring communities.
“The transformer upgrade will enhance the overall quality and stability of electricity supply in the region,” the statement said.
The two institutions assured customers that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to complete the works within the scheduled time and restore power promptly.
GRIDCo and ECG apologised for any inconvenience the planned outage may cause and reiterated their commitment to delivering reliable and improved electricity transmission and distribution services across the country.
