DVLA 'DP number issuance' revenue rises to GH¢27 million after digital sticker rollout

The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) Julius Neequaye Kotey has said the elimination of DP plates issued at the ports for imported vehicles and replacing them with stickers have helped greatly to get rid of fraud in the issuance of the numbers at the ports.

Before April 2025, when the DVLA started issuing DP stickers, he said an average maximum of 1,900 vehicles were deemed to be cleared from the port per month but that increased to over 5,000 in April 2025, and by October 2025, the figure had risen to 15,000 stickers per month.

This, he said has contributed greatly to revenue generation at the DVLA from DP numbers.

He said revenue has risen from GH¢15 million in 2024 to GH¢27 million by September 2026, following the replacement of aluminium plates with tamper-proof digital stickers at the ports.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Monday, October 12, Mr Kotey, said that in 2024, the DVLA issued 76,312 DP plates, producing revenue of GH¢15 million.

In 2025, the Authority issued 101,000 stickers with revenue of GH¢22 million, and from January to September 2026, a total of 134,000 DP stickers have been issued with revenue of GH¢27 million.

He explained that the Authority had noticed revenue leakage in the sale and distribution of DP plates at the port, prompting the replacement of the aluminium plates with tamper-proof digital stickers.
