Encourage children to excel in life - Dr Mensa Otabil

The General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Reverend Dr Mensa Otabil, has advised parents to have faith in their children and encourage them to excel in life.

At the dedication and inauguration of the Royal School at Frafraha, Dr Otabil said the fact that a child might not be winning prizes or excelling in school did not mean that was the end of his or her life.

“I want to advise parents; have faith in your children, believe in them even when they disappoint you. When they don’t do too well, believe in them,” he said.

He explained that by having faith in their children, parents would help them move from being in a disadvantaged stage to an advantaged position, adding that when everyone gives up on children, their parents must not.

“Your children may not be first, they may not collect prizes, but there is more to life than collecting prizes. Your children must know that there is someone out there to encourage them, no matter the circumstances, and that should be you the parent,” he said.

Positions in life

Dr Otabil also explained that once there were positions in life, someone’s child would be first and another would be last.

“Be happy when they are first, by all means believe and encourage them when they are last. The reality of life is that somebody’s child will be last once there are positions. Somebody’s child will be first but it doesn’t mean that the last child will be last in life,” he added.

The Royal School

The Director of the school, Mrs Anna Ewusie-Mensah, said the dream to establish a school for children living around Frafraha began in 1995 and was registered in 2007 as a crèche for children between the ages of three months and five years.

The Royal School, she said, was born out of a personal passion to teach children and the urge to satisfy an identified need within the Frafraha community.

The school currently has over 200 pupils with qualified teachers providing enhanced and quality education to the pupils.
