Fire destroys property at Kasoa new market

A major fire outbreak at the Kasoa New Market on Sunday [January 4, 2026] destroyed property worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the blaze swept through significant portions of the market, destroying many shops.

The fire is said to have started after 4pm, reports Amoabeng Christabel.

Personnel from the Kasoa and Weija Fire Stations were the first to arrive at the scene, but due to the intensity of the inferno, all available fire tenders and water pumps from Accra were dispatched to support the operation.

Firefighters batted the flames to prevent them from spreading to neighboring shops and residential structures.

The full extent of the property damage was not immediately known. There were also no reports of casualties.

The authorities urged traders and residents to stay clear of the area to allow emergency teams unfettered access to the site.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation.

Christabel Amoabeng reports that one witness mentioned seeing a meter cable spark before the flames erupted.

The people around who saw it decided to cut the cable, to help prevent the fire from crossing to the other section.
