Campaign to promote passenger, driver safety launched

A campaign aimed at promoting the safety of passengers and drivers who use the Bolt ride-hailing app has been launched in Accra. 

Launched by Bolt Ghana, the six-week campaign includes workshops designed to educate both drivers and passengers about the application’s live safety features and how to utilise them before, during and after a Bolt trip.

The safety features include how the drivers can use their mobile phone cameras to conduct verifications, sharing real-time notification with family and loved ones while on the trip, how to record audios in unsafe situations, and how to use Bolt’s trip insurance policy to make claims in instances of accident, theft and loss of personal items. 

Launch

Speaking at the launch, Senior Operations Manager, Henry Whyte, explained that the campaign was aimed at raising awareness of safety features, safety initiatives and scaling preventative measures to prevent safety cases before they happen.

The initiatives, he said were part of Bolt’s commitment to prevent incidents before they occurred, creating a safer ride-hailing experience for all.

“At Bolt, we take our responsibility to ensure the safety of our platform very seriously. We are taking this a step further by intensifying safety awareness and education.

“On the other hand, the Bolt Safety Team of over 500 specialists from across the world will focus their efforts on product development, support and scaling preventative measures to help prevent safety cases before they happen,” he said.

Bolt, he assured, would continue to raise awareness of its safety tools with educational campaigns such as the “Bolt Safety Team” campaign running in Ghana, to raise awareness of the in-app features that could help prevent cases.

Steps

Assistant Manager for Research, Business Development and Innovation at the DVLA, Abraham Sika Antobreh, commended Bolt for the proactive steps taken to introduce e-safety tools to ensure safer experiences for both drivers and passengers.

He called on all stakeholders—drivers, passengers, companies, and regulatory bodies—to place safety at the forefront of their operations, adding, “It is a timely reminder to all stakeholders in the transportation industry to prioritise safety at every level. Safety is a collective responsibility”

For his part, the Head of Public Investment and Business Development Unit at the National Road and Safety Transport Authority, Henry Asomani, said the initiative would help make transport services safer and more profitable for both drivers and passengers.
