Cop, 3 community policemen assaulted at Akrofuom

A police constable and three Community Police Assistants (CPAs) were last Wednesday attacked by thugs at Akrofuom within the Obuasi Divisional Police Command when they went to effect the arrest of one Sibuba, a suspect, for threatening to cause harm to a complainant.

The thugs, numbering about 50, and wielding all sorts of weapons, attacked the policeman and the other officers, beat them to a pulp and took away an AK47 rifle belonging to the police officer.

The victims, G/Constable Solomon Okyere, and the community police officers — Emmanuel Arhin, Alfred Danso and Frank Owusu Afriyie — were later dumped in a nearby bush.

They, however, managed to call for help and the reinforcement took them to the Obuasi Government Hospital where they were treated and discharged.

Per the police Situation Report (Sitrep) sighted by the Daily Graphic, the police had gone to the house of Sibuba to effect his arrest for threatening to cause harm to one Anthony Siaw.

However, when the police got to the house of the suspect, he pleaded with them to allow him to make a call to inform his family about his arrest and the police acquiesced to his request.

The report said, “A few minutes later, a mob numbering about 50, wielding all sorts of offensive weapons, attacked and beat the officers mercilessly.”

The police rifle has since been retrieved.
