Pursue success defining skills -JHS graduates advised
Junior High School graduates have been advised to attach seriousness to technology because it is advancing rapidly, while the skills that would define their success in the future are evolving at a fast pace.
“To navigate this changing landscape, you need to be equipped with more than just knowledge: you need to be empowered with the right mindset, skills and values. Change can be intimidating, but it also presents opportunities for growth and innovation,” the Senior Training Officer at VRA Academy, Dr Edwin Kodwo Kuntu Blankson, told the JHS graduates.
Speaking as the guest speaker at the Akuse Volta River Authority International Schools Limited (VISL) 2025 junior high school graduation ceremony on the theme: “Empowering young minds towards a constantly changing world”, he told the graduates to remember that setbacks were part of life and developing resilience would be crucial to overcoming obstacles.
He also urged them to cultivate a growth mindset and not to be afraid to take calculated risks and experiment with new ideas.
Education
Dr Blankson stated that even though education was key to empowerment, it was not just about acquiring knowledge, but also about developing the skills and values necessary to make a positive impact in the world.
“As you continue on your educational journey, remember that you have the power to create change. Take action, whether through community service, environmental activism or pursuing your passions,” he stated.
As young people, Dr Blankson said, they had unique perspectives and energy that could drive positive change and, therefore, they should not underestimate the power of their voices and actions. He said no one succeeded alone and they must, therefore, surround themselves with people who would support, inspire, guide and mentor them and provide insights.
Projects
The Supervisor of the school, Gladys Appiah, said the VRA had initiated a number of projects to accelerate the growth of the school and communicated the school’s sincere gratitude to the VRA for the consideration and hoped the project would be completed as envisaged.
She added that GRIDCo had donated a complete set of musical instruments to the Akuse School, which would enhance the school’s musical activities.
The Director of VISL, Eric Mensah Bonsu, who unveiled the musical instruments donated by GRIDCo, urged the graduates to listen not only to their parents, but all elderly people who had a role to play in their lives in society.
The School Prefect, Jesil Kwakye, said the school needed vital improvements, such as kindergarten facilities and playing equipment, classroom CCTV cameras and refurbishment of the science laboratory, home economics department and pre-technical workshop, to enhance academic work, and, therefore, pleaded with the administration of the school to help solve these challenges.
Each of the graduating students was presented with a Bible and a certificate, in addition to prizes received by deserving students.
