Ghana Water Limited's central store in Ashaiman destroyed by dawn fire
A central store of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), located at Ashaiman Golf City, caught fire on Monday morning.
A swift response by personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) helped to extinguish the fire and prevent it from causing further damage to the adjoining structures.
The fire reportedly started in the warehouse storing production materials and machine parts.
According to the GNFS, the distress call was received at 12:18 am, and the crew arrived at the scene by 12:25 a.m.
With reinforcement from the Tema Metro and Industrial Area Fire Stations, the fire was confined by 1:43 am, brought under control by 3:22 am, and fully extinguished by 3:50 am.
The blaze completely destroyed Warehouse “D” and its contents. However, firefighters successfully salvaged six workers' quarters and two adjacent warehouses, labeled “B” and “C.” No casualties were reported in the incident.
The operation was led by ADO I Samuel Darko, under the supervision of senior officers including ACFO II Patrick Sallah, the Tema Regional Fire Officer. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
