GNUTS elects Deborah Asante-Aboagye President

The Ghana National Union of Technical Students (GNUTS) has elected the first ever female President, Deborah Asante-Aboagye, at the Union’s 27th Annual Residential Delegates Congress held at the Kumasi Technical University at weekend.

Deborah, a third year Civil Engineering student at the Cape Coast Technical University was announced the winner over her lead rival Ishmael Larbi by the Electoral Commission of the Union.

Others elected to support her drive the Union for the academic year are Bernice Boateng, National Secretary.

Karima Mohammed was endorsed as the Coordinating Secretary after her closest contender, Sandra Leiwu-Teiko stepped down some hours to the poll. 

Richard Nana Appiah from Koforidua Technical University beat his main contender, Tajudeen Abdulai, a GNUTS Rep from Takoradi Technical University to win the Research and Education Officer Post.

Bright Nkutumi won the treasurer contest narrowly over his closest contender, Collins Adoko with two votes.

Foster Semabia, a former SRC President of Takoradi Technical University beat Alice Frimpomaa Boateng and two others to win the Public Relations Officer slot whilst Mary Kabuki Afadi also won the Women’s Commissioner position.

In her address, Deborah pledged her readiness to serve the interest of the technical students in the country.

“I am ready to serve you. Do not hesitate to bring your suggestions to my office for consideration and implementation. I promise to listen to all and sundry in as much as it will inure to the benefit of the technical and vocational student,” she said.

She added “Don’t be shy to prompt me if you think I am going off my track. For if I fail, I fail with you; and if I win, we win together.”

The Ghana National Union of Technical Students (GNUTS) is a democratic, non-partisan, independent and mass movement of Technical Universities, Polytechnics, Technical and Vocational Students in Ghana.
