Government intensifies "Operation Halt" to combat Illegal small-scale mining

The government has announced enhanced measures to strengthen the ongoing "Operation Halt," led by the Ghana Armed Forces, aimed at eliminating illegal mining activities in water bodies.

In this new phase, the operation will collaborate with the Small-Scale Miners Association of Ghana to intensify efforts against illegal mining.

The government has reiterated that river bodies and forest reserves are designated red zones, warning all individuals engaged in mining in these areas to evacuate immediately.

A statement issued by the Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, reaffirmed the government's commitment to the fight against illegal mining and called on all stakeholders to support the cause.

GOVERNMENT TAKES FURTHER ACTION TO TACKLE ILLEGAL MINING

1. Government in its continued efforts to clamp down on the long-standing menace of Illegal Small-Scale Mining, has concluded operational measures to intensify the ongoing “Operation Halt” which is led by the Ghana Armed forces, to rid our river bodies of all forms of mining activities.

2. This phase of the operation will be done in conjunction with the Small-Scale Miners Association of Ghana.

3. Government reasserts that river bodies and forest reserves remain red zones.

4. Government reiterates its commitment to the fight against illegal small-scale mining and calls on all stakeholders to join the fight.
