Government settles school feeding arrears for first term of 2024/2025 academic year
The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), has fully settled all outstanding arrears owed to caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) for the first term of the 2024/2025 academic year.
In a statement issued by the National Coordinator of the GSFP on 9 April, Hajia Fati Forgor confirmed that payments covering 31 days of arrears had been made. She reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting caterers involved in the programme.
The GSFP Secretariat further disclosed that major restructuring efforts are currently underway to enhance the overall efficiency of the programme.
These reforms include the decentralisation of operations, improvements in the quality of meals served to schoolchildren, and the establishment of systems to ensure the consistent and timely disbursement of funds to caterers.
"The GSFP Secretariat, under the supervision of the MoGCSP, has commenced a restructuring of the Programme to fulfil the Government's commitment to decentralise its operations, improve the quality of food served and ensure consistency in the payment of caterers," the statement read.
Hajia Forgor expressed gratitude to the government for the prompt release of funds, and also extended appreciation to donor partners for their continued support in sustaining the implementation of the initiative.
