Korle Bu terminates appointment of four

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has terminated the appointment of four of its pharmaceutical staff members following what it described as gross incompetence and negligence of duty in the management and day-to-day operations of the 24-hour Pharmacy.

The affected staff members are the Director of Pharmacy and the 24-hour Pharmacy, Mrs Elizabeth Bruce; the Principal Pharmacist, Mr Eric Kwaku Kyei; the Pharmacy Accountant, Mrs Augustina Dankyi, and the Stores Assistant, Mr Daniel Eledi.

A press release issued by the hospital yesterday explained that a forensic audit commissioned by the Ministry of Health (MoH) last year established that GH¢946,574.29 could not be accounted for from sales revenue at the 24-Hour Pharmacy.
An administrative enquiry commissioned by the Board of the KBTH confirmed the fault of the four individuals in respect of the unaccounted amount.

It stated that the board organised an emergency meeting, during which it decided to terminate the appointment of the mentioned individuals.

The decision, however, was without prejudice to the ongoing criminal investigations being carried out by the Economic and Organised Crime Office in respect of the unaccounted funds.
“The KBTH wishes to inform the staff and all stakeholders that it remains committed to ensuring that the assets of the hospital are protected,” it said.

It said the management of the hospital had been directed by the board to carry out relevant internal processes and procedures on all other operations of the KBTH to ensure that robust systems and processes were put in place to forestall such occurrences.
“This is to ensure good governance, transparency and accountability in the management of the hospital,” the release said.
