Abutia marks Easter with carnival
ON Saturday, April 4, Abutia-Kpota in the Ho West District of the Volta Region played host to a cultural exposition during this year’s Asafotu Easter Carnival of the Abutia Traditional Council.
The celebration, on the theme: ‘Exploring the Tourism Potential Within Abutia for Growth and Development,’ attracted people from all walks and life.
Among the large crowd who graced the grand durbar which climaxed the celebration were the leader of the People’s National Convention, Bernard Anbataayela Mornah, who was a special guest and his running mate in the 2024 general elections, Joycelyn Akorfa Dotse-Ametsi, a native of Abutia.
Performances by the Akpo, Sekplito, Akpi, Ade/Kokomba, Borborbor/Akpese, and Asafo troupes held the gathering captive in an ambience of great delight and excitement.
The Paramount Chief of Abutia, Togbega Abutia Kodzo Gidi V, in his speech re-affirmed the traditional area’s stance to commit greater zeal and resources towards girl-child education in the area.
That, he said, required peace and unity of purpose in the area.
Togbe Gidi, therefore, warned any individual or group whose unruly conduct undermines the peace in Abutia would suffer swift and ruthless consequences.
“We will hand them over to the security agencies without delay and ensure they are processed for court as soon as possible,” he added.
He reminded the people Abutia had only one paramount chief and for that matter the traditional council would not tolerate any divisive acts from a few disgruntled people.
“Every element of disunity will be flushed out,” he further warned.
Togbega Gidi urged the people to renew their bond of unity without discrimination towards any group in the area, and forge ahead in progress.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Prosper Francis Dusey said the rich and diverse culture of Abutia were colossal assets which were due to bear bountiful fruits with the ongoing Big Push and Resetting Agenda which were already evident in the area.
“You can see at first hand the progress of the Sokode-Kloe, Asikuma-Anyirawase, Anyirawase-Ho, and Teti-Adaklu roads, all of which are indications of bright development prospects,” he added.
The DCE gave an assurance plans were underway to rehabilitate basic school structures and put up bungalows for teachers.
Mr Mornah said Abutia was known for many years as a development-oriented enclave.
He, therefore, entreated the people to complement the government’s development efforts by living in harmony to ensure the timely completion of the Big Push and other development projects in the area.
Mr Mornah also mentioned the Kalakpa Game Reserve in the area and said when properly preserved and managed would bring massive fortunes to Abutia.
