Kosmos Energy supports Academy of Arts & Sciences with Gh¢144,210
The Academy of Arts and Sciences has received Gh¢144,210 financial support from Kosmso Energy to enable it clear a backlog of years unprinted manuscript due to lack of funding.

The support would also help the Academy to further advance its cause in the promotion of learning and dissemination of knowledge through the use of the electronic and social media.
Receiving the support, the Vice President of the Academy, Prof Ardayfio-Schandorf commended Kosmos Energy Ghana for showing interest in the academy with the support to publish its manuscripts and papers.
Prof Ardayfio-Schandorf, however, noted that aside difficulties in achieving the academy’s quest of stimulating excellence in knowledge and inspiring excellence in its membership, the Academy was also faced with challenges in carrying out its mission of encouraging the creation, acquisition, dissemination and utilization of knowledge for national development.
“Publication in print is an important dissemination strategy of the academy; however, production of the publication has suffered an enormous setback due to financial challenges,” she said.
For his part, Mr. Ken Keag, the outgoing Vice President and Country Manager of Kosmos Enrgy, said the support would signify a long term relationship between his outfit and the academy.
“We are pleased to support the Academy’s activities in their efforts to promote excellence in knowledge in addition to providing expert knowledge across the spectrum for the social and economic development of Ghana for the past 56 years. We hope that the support will enable the Academy to publish papers researched over the years to make them available for Ghanaians. We know how important these subjects are for the nation and hence our support,” he said.
In the initial interaction he said he had read about the Academy’s works with extreme interest. “I understood what an august body this is, formed of a wide range of high quality expertise represented by some of you here today which brings a lot to bear in terms of national development across the whole spectrum of the arts and sciences.”

He said he appreciated that a lot had been done that was not in the public domain which had led to Kosmos Energy’s decision to support , adding that most recent intervention made joining the debate on Ebola virus disease vaccine testing in the country.
The ceremony was attended by fellows and officials of the Academy and a delegation from Kosmos Energy, including Mr. Joe Mensah, the incoming vice-president and country manager, Ken Keag, the out-going country manager, George Sarpong, Directory of Corporate Affairs and Ruth Adashie communications manager among others.
The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences was established 56 years ago by the Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in November 1959 in his quest to realize his sole interest and dream of industrializing the country within the shortest possible time.
The focus of the academy is all inclusive to first promote the study, extension and dissemination of knowledge of all the sciences, philosophies, humanities, the arts and sciences, fine arts, physical sciences, medical, all sciences and all forms of learning.
