Lands Minister assures workers of job security at Damang Mine

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reassured the management and staff of the Abosso Gold Fields Damang Mine of continued operations and job security.

“We came to engage the workers of the Damang Mine to assure them of President Mahama’s commitment to ensure that, even during this transitional period, their jobs will be protected. We are going to work closely with them to safeguard the safety and integrity of operations here,” he stated.

The visit follows the government’s decision to assume control of the mine’s operations after Gold Fields failed to meet key conditions required for lease renewal.

Mr Buah, who was accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry and the Minerals Commission, urged the current management to maintain operations and ensure that no worker is dismissed during the transitional phase.

“Contractors and subcontractors working here must be assured that this transition will not affect their commitments or contracts. The ultimate aim is to empower the local communities and ensure that operations continue without disruption,” he added.
