The items included blankets, mosquito nets, toiletries, cartons of cooking oil, bags of rice and sachets of water.
It was funded by the Lions Club International Foundation at a cost of $10,000 and an additional amount of GH¢ 3,000 provided by the Ghana chapter.

Reason for presentation

Presenting the items, the Regional Chairperson of Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, Lion Abigail Amoah, said the club was touched by the difficult situation the residents had to go through as a result of the flood.

That, she said, informed its decision to embark on the exercise, noting that it was the aim of the club to assist the needy and the vulnerable in the society.

“As a foundation, we have it as our motto to serve communities. So we felt the need to provide the needed assistance that we could to the residents,” she said.
According to her, the items would go a long way to relieve the victims of the burdens as a result of the flood.

Lion Amoah indicated that the foundation was able to provide for more than 200 victims, and added, “We’ll give them further assistance when we get enough funding.”

Residents express happiness

One of the beneficiaries, who received the items on behalf of the victims, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the two organisations for the gesture.

“These items have come at the right time since a lot of us lost our properties due to the incident,” another said.
