NAIMOS taskforce storms illegal mining sites in Western Region, destroys equipment

A taskforce from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has stormed several illegal mining sites at Hiawa in the Amenfi Central District as part of intensified efforts to clamp down on galamsey activities.

During the operation, the taskforce destroyed assorted illegal mining equipment, including makeshift structures, water pumping machines and wooden gold-washing platforms used by the miners.

The exercise forms part of NAIMOS’ renewed crackdown on areas that have been reoccupied by illegal miners, whose activities continue to cause severe damage to water bodies, forests and farmlands in blatant disregard of environmental laws and regulatory oversight.

NAIMOS has reiterated its commitment to sustaining operations in galamsey-prone communities to protect natural resources and prevent further environmental degradation.
