Accra: Police pick up two women seen in video assaulting 12-year-old girl at La

Two women have been picked up by the police at La in Greater Accra in connection with the alleged assault of a 12-year-old girl at the La Roman Junior High School area. This followed the circulation of a video of the assault incident on social media.

The Accra Regional Police Command said the suspects, Precious Giftan Mesopeh, aged 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, aged 25, were arrested on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, following public outrage over the footage.

The video shows three women taking turns to flog the child with canes. 

In a press statement dated January 4, 2026, the police said the incident took place on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

The victim’s mother reported the case at the police station and presented her daughter, who had visible marks from the beating.

Police issued a medical report form for examination and took a statement from the complainant to support investigations.

Initial findings indicated that the assault followed a disagreement between the victim and a seven year old boy, Horm Giftan Mesopeh, who is related to the suspects.

Police said the suspects later went to the girl’s home and attacked her over the matter.

A third suspect, identified as Priscilla Novishie Wornyo, aged 49, a fashion designer and mother of the two arrested women, is said to have travelled to the Volta Region. Police said efforts were underway to locate and arrest her.

The two suspects currently in custody have been charged and are assisting with investigations.

They are expected to appear in court on Monday, January 5, 2026.

The video has drawn public condemnation.
