The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and rescued a 42 year old man who was abducted from his home at Wapuli in the Yendi District.
The suspects named by the police as Haruna Seidu, Amidu Bandi and Osman Bandi, were arrested at Bokpaba, a village along the Bimbilla-Yendi stretch of the Eastern Corridor, following an intelligence led operation last Friday.
The three, who are believed to be part of a four-member syndicate, had allegedly demanded GH¢100,000 ransom from the victim’s family as a condition for his release.
In a police statement issued on Monday [December 8, 2025], the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, said police received information about the kidnapping and dispatched a five-member team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate to Wapuli.
Mr Niendow said the team conducted surveillance and traced the suspects to their hideout in Bokpaba, where the victim was being held.
He said the rescue operation, which took place on December 5, 2025, involved an exchange of gunfire between the police team and the suspects.
The three suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned before the court.
Mr Niendow disclosed that a fourth member of the group sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter and escaped.
He appealed to residents, especially along the Bimbilla Yendi corridor, to provide information that could lead to the arrest of the fugitive.
Mr Niendow assured the public that the Command would continue to work to keep residents safe across the region.
