Police tighten security nationwide for 31st December and New Year activities
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of heightened security nationwide as Ghanaians mark activities associated with Wednesday, December 31, and usher in the New Year.
In a statement, the Police said personnel have been deployed across communities, major towns, entertainment centres and key highways, with patrols intensified to ensure the safety of persons and property while maintaining public order.
The Service indicated that traffic officers would be positioned at major intersections to manage vehicular movement and ensure smooth traffic flow during the festivities, particularly in areas expected to record heavy human and vehicular traffic.
According to the Police, special security arrangements have also been put in place at public gathering venues, including churches, event grounds and other locations anticipated to attract large crowds, as part of measures to prevent crime and respond swiftly to any incidents.
The Police have appealed to members of the public to cooperate fully with officers on duty and to remain vigilant throughout the period. The statement urged citizens to be mindful of their surroundings and to look out for neighbours, especially those who may be away from their homes.
The Service encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious activity to the Police using the emergency lines 0302773906, 18555, 191 or 112 to enable immediate response.
The Ghana Police Service concluded by wishing all Ghanaians a safe, peaceful and happy New Year
