Rawlings fetes Veterans to celebrate 70th birthday

Ghana’s longest serving President, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings who turns 70 on Thursday will celebrate the day with a lunch in honour of living Ghanaian World War II veterans and some senior citizens.

The former President says he wants to remind Ghanaians about the role the World War II veterans played in Ghana’s political history and intends to raise support for them and other citizens. Today’s luncheon in Accra will celebrate the senior citizens and also help to raise awareness about their welfare.

The former President was the Special Guest of Honour at a symposium on the environment held at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in Accra on Wednesday.

Speakers at the event included the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng and former Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Peter Acquah.

On Thursday evening the former President will be the Special Guest at the premier of ‘Damaged Goods’, a play by renowned playwright and motivational speaker, James Ebo Whyte at the National Theatre in Accra.
