From reconciliation reports to separation confirmation: Afua Asantewaa sets the record straight

Ghanaian media personality and two-time Guinness World Record contender, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, has officially confirmed that her marriage has come to an end, breaking her silence following a week of intense public speculation and social media discourse about the state of her relationship.

In a formal statement released to the public days after revealing the split in widely circulated TikTok videos, she disclosed that the decision to separate from her husband, Kofi Owusu Aduonum, was made privately and after careful consideration. She appealed to the public and the media to accord her the sensitivity she deserves as she navigates this transitional phase.

"I wish to formally confirm that my husband and I are no longer together. This decision was reached privately and with careful consideration, and I kindly request that this transition be treated with the sensitivity it deserves," the statement read.

The announcement comes amid a swirl of circulating narratives, many of which she described as false, misleading, and inaccurate. Without delving into specifics, Asantewaa made it clear that a number of claims being peddled about her personal circumstances do not reflect reality.

"It has come to my attention that certain false claims and misleading interpretations have been circulated. I would like to categorically state that many of these assertions are inaccurate and do not reflect the truth of the situation," she said.

Addressing perceptions of ingratitude

The media personality also took the opportunity to respond to suggestions that she has been ungrateful to individuals and institutions that supported her rise to prominence. She rejected such characterisations emphatically.

"I also wish to address the perception that I have been ungrateful. Let me be clear: I am, and have always been, deeply appreciative of every individual, opportunity, and experience that has contributed to my journey. Any portrayal suggesting otherwise does not represent who I am," she stated.

Denial of reconciliation

Asantewaa's confirmation of the separation directly contradicts earlier reports suggesting that businessman and philanthropist Kennedy Agyapong, popularly known as Kenpong, had intervened to reconcile the couple. Reports had circulated claiming that the couple, who married in 2017 and have three children, were back together following mediation efforts led by Agyapong, whom the family regards as a mentor and father figure.

Those reports, which suggested that Agyapong had counselled unity and that both parties were committed to resolving their differences privately, have now been implicitly dismissed by Asantewaa's unequivocal statement that she and her husband are no longer together.
