Three vehicles gutted in early morning collision fire at Buipe

Firefighters from the Buipe Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service acted swiftly on Sunday, February 22, to contain a major vehicular fire, preventing what authorities say could have resulted in greater destruction and possible loss of life.

According to a statement from the Service, the crew responded to a distress call at about 5:35 am involving a flat-bed trailer with registration number GR 6757–11, loaded with 1,000 bags of cement, and a low-bed truck, GE 366–16, which was transporting a Hyundai van with registration number GN 9512–15.

The six-member team, led by ASTNO Seidu Abdul Basit, arrived at the scene at approximately 5:43 am to find the vehicles heavily engulfed in flames.

Firefighters immediately deployed water and foam concentrate to battle the blaze. The fire was brought under control by 6:13 am and fully extinguished at about 6:55 am.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was triggered by a collision involving a stationary, broken-down trailer and an attempted overtaking manoeuvre by the low-bed truck. The impact is believed to have ignited the blaze, leading to the destruction of all three vehicles.

The incident caused extensive damage, including the burning of part of the cement cargo, the head compartments of the vehicles and their side wheels.

The GNFS says investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
