Dubbed: “Healthy Child Fair 2016”, the exercise saw over 1,500 children undergoing treatment in the areas of nutrition, ear, nose and throat (ENT), dentistry, general paediatrics and other behavioural concerns.

Briefing the media after the exercise, hosted by Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi, a Senior Paediatrician at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), who doubles as the Ashanti Regional President of the PSG, Dr Anthony Enimil, advised parents to see children as the most treasured assets in the family and give them the necessary attention.

The screening exercise was supported by Little Steps Foundation (LSF) and PZ Cussons.

“Parents should therefore invest in such outreach programmes since that leads to early detection of medical conditions and treatment offered before complications set in,” he cautioned.

He called on the government to actively create the enabling environment while engaging PSG on major policies affecting children in Ghana.

Established in 1969, the PSG is a vibrant non-governmental organisation which seeks to improve the wellbeing of children in Ghana through advocacy and education.

Golden Bean

The Sales & Finance Manager of Golden Bean Hotel, Mr Melchizedek Owusu Boachie, said the initiative formed part of the hotel’s corporate social responsibility in giving back to the society in which it operated.

He said it all began a year ago when authorities of the PSG approached the company to use the premises of Golden Bean Hotel for the screening exercise.

He said since October, 2015 when it commenced operations, the company had won five awards, a clear indication of making unparalleled strides to attaining greater heights in the tourism field.

Mr Owusu Boachie reassured clients that the Golden Bean Hotel team would continue to provide the highest standards of service and comfort and endeavour to constantly exceed their expectation.

Fun time

Hundreds of children could not have left the plush Golden Bean Hotel without taking advantage of the state-of-the-art outdoor play area at the premises.

They engaged themselves in face painting, merry-go-round, seesaw, bouncing castle, building blocks, spring rings, trampoline, swing seat and swimming, among others.

The children were taken through a food and drink bazaar with background music, which saw them display their concealed talents.

The parents participated fully in the occasion and also used the opportunity to socialise and network while old friends were reconnected.
