‘We will be accountable’

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the water, sanitation and hygiene sector have assured the government and their partners that they will be more accountable in their activities.

In a 10-point communiqué issued at the end of a three-day conference known as the Mole Conference series, the NGOs agreed “to fully support the development of a database of civil society organisations (CSOs)/private institutions (PIs) and harmonisation of all existing information systems, as well as make ourselves accountable through regular submission of all necessary reports.”

The pledge was made after the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Julius Debrah, had described as sad the lack of data on the operations of NGOS in Ghana.

His observation was contained in a keynote address read on his behalf at the Mole XXV Conference in Accra.
