The website, www.ggps.gov.gh, is to provide information, verification and confirmation on procurement of physical goods, products and capital assets to be used by the government.

The event, themed “the use of electronic platform as a tool to facilitate effective and efficient performance of government procurement and supply chain management,” brought together public and government agencies to create awareness about the website.

Improving local business

At the launch yesterday in Accra, the Director of PSCM, Dr Tett Afottey-Walters, said the website was also to improve government efforts at reaching out to local businesses.

He explained that the website would also advertise tender documents that were raised throughout government businesses, adding that potential suppliers could download the forms online and submit them directly to the appropriate ministries for contracts.

Dr Afottey-Walters added that there were plans to aggregate requirements to make sure local suppliers determined to do business with government had access to the appropriate quantities to improve the local economy.

The website, he said, would also put requirements of particular ministries together to reduce the cost involved in complying with the public procurement laws of the country.

“The PSCM would also engage suppliers and potential suppliers who are determined to do business with the government to develop ways to access business documents to ensure that local suppliers and contractors have access to government businesses,” he added.

ICT projects

Launching the website, a Deputy Minister of Communications, Mr Ato Sarpong, said tracking of information related to procured assets and resources with regard to quantity, quality and location would be easier for all users.

He also said the government had identified Information and Communication Technology (ICT) applications as key to accelerated economic growth.

Mr Sarpong stated that the government had adopted the ICT-led socio-economic policy for accelerated development, which would improve development and enhancement of the nation's human resource and good governance.

Additionally, he said, ICT legislations, regulations and policies had been provided for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Registrar General’s Department while the Government Online Services Portal and e-Payment (e-Services) had been initiated to serve  as a one-stop-service centre for  the provision of online services.
