Achimota Golf Club Ladies donate GH₵40,000 to Korle Bu for breast cancer care
The Ladies Section of the Achimota Golf Club has donated GH₵40,000 to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to support breast cancer awareness, treatment and care, reinforcing its sustained advocacy for women’s health.
The cheque presentation took place on Wednesday at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where the Lady Captain of the Achimota Golf Club and Chief Executive Officer of Destinations au Soleil Travel and Tours, Mrs Kous Louanges Mang, formally handed over the donation to Dr Florence Dedey on behalf of the hospital.
The ceremony was attended by Mr Anas Hamidu, Dr Josephine Nsaful, Dr Benjamin Fenu and Dr Florence Dedey, who received the cheque for the hospital. Also present were the Lady Vice Captain of the club, Mrs Selasie Gbedamah, the Immediate Past Lady Captain, Mrs Elizabeth Essel-Koomson, as well as two representatives of Allstar Insurance Brokers Company Ltd, the title sponsor of the Pink Cup Tournament.
The donation was raised through the club’s annual Pink Cup Tournament, an initiative organised by the Achimota Golf Club Ladies Section to promote breast cancer awareness through sport and advocacy. The tournament brings together golfers, sponsors and supporters who rally around the cause each year.
Speaking at the presentation, Mrs Mang said the donation reflected the club’s long-standing commitment to supporting breast cancer awareness and women’s health, noting that the Ladies Section had championed the cause consistently over the past seven years.
“This year’s donation of GH₵40,000 builds on our contribution of GH₵30,000 last year, and it reflects the growing support and generosity of our golfers, sponsors, and partners,” she said.
She explained that the Pink Cup Tournament had become more than a sporting event, serving as a platform for advocacy and tangible support for breast cancer patients and healthcare providers.
Representatives of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital expressed appreciation to the Achimota Golf Club Ladies Section and its sponsors for the continued support, describing the donation as timely and impactful in the hospital’s ongoing efforts to support breast cancer patients.
The Achimota Golf Club Ladies Section reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the Pink Cup initiative and strengthening partnerships aimed at promoting awareness, early detection and improved care for breast cancer patients across the country.
