Ada West DCE calls for support for accelerated devt

The District Chief Executive for Ada West, Mr Adzoteye Lawer Akrofi, has entreated the people to support the assembly to ensure the accelerated development of the area.

According to the DCE, the government’s intention to develop the Ada Songor Lagoon for the benefit of the entire Ada community was on course, but would require the full backing of the chiefs and people, in collaboration with the Ada East and Ada West district assemblies, to move the area forward.

According to him: ‘‘Our two district assemblies are ready to lead and pursue that dream and we count on the Ada Traditional Council in that direction.’’

Presentation

Mr Akrofi was speaking after presenting a bull, crates of soft drinks and an undisclosed amount of money on behalf of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to the Paramount Chief of the Area, Djetse Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, for the celebration of this year’s Asafotufiam festival at Ada in the Greater Accra Region.

The festival, which was the 80th edition, was on the theme, ‘‘Peace and Unity as tool for Socio- Economic Transformation of Ada Traditional Area.’’

The occasion also marked the 40th anniversary of the enstoolment of the Paramount Chief, Djetse Nene Akuaku III, since his enstoolment in 1977.

Advice

Mr  Akrofi said as people of the traditional area celebrated the festival to recount their heroic achievements over the years, it was important they also took advantage of the occasion to partner other stakeholders to unearth the investment potentials in the area, including some notable tourists sites.

“Even though as district assemblies, the development of the area is our responsibility, we see the Ada Traditional Council and the entire people of Ada as key stakeholders and partners in the development process of the Ada State,’’ he stated.

The DCE, however, observed that for any meaningful development to take place in an area, there was the need for sustained peace and unity.

He appealed to citizens of the Ada State to avoid land litigations to allow for easy access to land by investors for the growth and development of the traditional area.

The DCE further urged them to eschew all forms of partisanship and politicisation of the festival which, he said, symbolised unity and togetherness.

‘’We also need to collectively guard against acts of commission or omission that can endanger our peace and unity as a people,’’ he added.
