Atick Yakubu proposes new TESCON leadership structure for inclusive student representation

A National Youth Organiser hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Atick Yakubu, has proposed a new leadership structure for TESCON to ensure equal representation and engagement across all tertiary institutions.

Speaking at a TESCON handing-over ceremony at the Presbyterian Training College, Akropong, he expressed concern that while traditional public universities receive significant attention, other institutions such as private universities, technical universities, nursing and midwifery schools, and colleges of education often feel neglected in the affairs of the party’s youth wing.

According to him, this uneven focus has led to weaker TESCON structures in these institutions, affecting the NPP’s broader youth mobilisation efforts.

To address this, Yakubu announced a decentralised TESCON leadership structure that would introduce sector-based deputy national coordinators for different tertiary institutions.

“TESCON is the backbone of the NPP’s youth mobilisation efforts, and every institution must be prioritised. With this structure, we will ensure that no institution is left behind,” he stated.

Under the proposed structure, separate coordinators will oversee TESCON affairs in nursing and midwifery institutions, private universities, traditional and technical universities, and colleges of education, with a national TESCON coordinator supervising the deputies.

Yakubu believes that introducing sector-based deputy coordinators will ensure that all institutions receive the necessary attention and resources to operate effectively.

He said his proposal, if adopted, could strengthen the party’s engagement with students and improve its youth mobilisation strategies.
