December Polls: Akufo-Addo's track record better than John Mahama's - Mustapha Hamid

The Deputy Campaign Manager of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Abdul Mustapha Hamid has advised Ghanaians to choose who becomes their next president in the upcoming December presidential polls based on the candidate's track record.

According to him, the 2020 presidential polls is unique in the sense that this is the first time the two main contenders, President Akufo-Addo and former President John Dramani Mahama have been presidents before.

Voters should therefore judge the two candidates - President Akufo-Addo and former President Mahama on their records of achievements when they had the opportunity to serve the country.

Dr. Hamid who was addressing a press conference by the party on Monday afternoon, September 7, 2020, said when it comes to track record, President Akufo-Addo's achievements far outweighs that of former President Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, Mr Mahama has nothing to show for the period he had the opportunity to serve the country.

"Track record should be the basis for electability for the 2020 elections," he said, adding that based on the track record, President Akufo-Addo "best qualifies to be elected this year."

Dr. Hamid, also Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development said the NPP has been able to achieve what it has achieved because the party keeps its campaign promises, unlike the NDC.

For him, to the NDC, manifestos "are empty rituals", pointing out that because the NDC did not value manifestos, they do not keep their manifesto promises unlike the NPP that keeps its manifesto promises.

He said the upcoming manifesto launch of the NDC Monday evening "is nothing but an empty ritual."

Dr Hamid said Ghanaians ought to also judge President Akufo-Addo and former President based on their intentions.

He said, "Those with good intentions make good promises but those with good character keep their promises."

According to him, "Mr Mahama is no keeper of promises" unlike President Akufo-Addo, adding that the "NDC has no track record in fulfilling any manifesto promise."

He added that President Akufo-Addo promised free senior High School, restoration of teacher and nursing trainee allowances and he has delivered those promises.

"Clearly, the NPP has a superior record in the education sector," he said, pointing out that in terms of job creation, agriculture, development of Zongo communities, the NDC comes nowhere near the NPP government.
