NPP picks Baba Ali Ayawaso East by-election candidate
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has unveiled Baba Ali as its parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election, setting the stage for a fierce contest.
The party's Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Divine Agorhom, announced the decision, citing Baba Ali's experience, humility and mobilisation skills as key factors.
The by-election is scheduled for March 3, 2026, following the sudden demise of the late Member of Parliament (MP), Naser Toure Mahama.
The NPP is gearing up for an intense campaign, aiming to win the seat.
Mr Agorhom said the choice followed careful consultations and was informed by the candidate’s experience, humility and capacity to mobilise support within a limited timeframe.
He explained that the party deliberately opted for a candidate who was well-grounded in its internal structures and capable of working harmoniously with party members across all levels to galvanise grassroots support.
“We want somebody with strong party experience, who understands our structures, is well known within the party, and has the humility and willingness to go door-to-door and engage everyone so that, within this short period, we can work together to make him acceptable to the constituency,” he stated.
