Kofi Portuphy- NDC Chairman

Kofi Portuphy resigns as NADMO boss

The National Coordinator for the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Kofi Portuphy has resigned.

He has tended in his resignation to President John Mahama and is currently waiting for approval.

Since his election as the National Chairman for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Portuphy has been under intense pressure to resign as NADMO boss.

Ghana’s largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has also been advocating for his resignation indicating that Portuphy’s continuous stay in office as NADMO boss is a clear violation of Article 78, section 3 of the constitution.

The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) recently charged Parliament to pressurize the President to force Portuphy to resign.

But some NDC communicators maintain their national chairman has in no way breached the nation’s constitution by serving as a national officer while concurrently occupying a political party position.

Both Portuphy and the Presidency have remained silent on the matter since the former’s election as NDC chair.

His Deputy, Anita De-Soso also resigned from her position a few months after being elected vice chairman of the NDC.

Portuphy was the first National Coordinator of NADMO but was asked to proceed on leave when the NPP took over power in 2001.

He however returned to NADMO in January 2009 after the NDC was voted back into power.
