Kosi Kedem wants to chair Volta NDC

Mr Kosi Kedem, a member of the Consultative Assembly that drafted the 1992 Constitution and a Member of Parliament for the Hohoe South constituency for 12 years from 1993-2006,  is putting himself up for election as the Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Kedem, who describes himself as a  “tested, mature and experienced loyal member” of the NDC, is currently one of the regional vice-chairmen and wants to bring positive changes within the NDC.

Under his “New Deal” agenda, it is his desire to offer leadership based on discipline, justice and equity, fairness, tolerance, accountability, and transparency in the body politic of the party.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic on his intention to contest the regional chairmanship position in Accra yesterday, he stated that leadership positions within political parties were not for just anybody and for that reason, promised to initiate a process for the party in the region to be “consulted when political and diplomatic appointments are being made by the President.”

In addition, he said he intended to restructure and re-vitalise the NDC in the Volta Region by streamlining and synergising the relationship among the regional executive, Members of Parliament, Municipal and District Chief Executives in order to build trust, mutual respect and co-operation among them.

Since the youth and women were the backbone of any country, the aspiring chairman said, they would be given more opportunity and political space, as well as provide them with resources to make them operate more effectively within the party structures.

In order to create cohesion, Mr Kedem said office holders within the regional branch would be given more recognition so that  they would work with branch executives for the good of the party.

The regional branch currently has no office and so he promised to build one in the shortest possible time.

In order to implement all these plans, Mr Kodem said one must have the knowledge and experience to which he pointed out that “Kedem does not lack any of these.”

“To achieve this patriotic task, the regional executive, under my leadership, will, within two months of assuming power, produce a blue print for implementation,” he added.

He said he was aware the task would not be an easy one and promised to “mobilise and manage" all legally available human and financial resources in order to help the party retain power in 2016.
