Madina NDC executives contest legality of assembly meeting
The executives of the Madina Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are contesting the legality of the purported meeting at which the assembly members of the La-Nkwantanang Madina District Assembly passed a vote of no confidence in the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Franklin P. Anku.

“We are very much aware that a meeting of the General Assembly is normally supposed to be called with a notice issued on the instruction of the presiding member by the coordinating director with adequate notice to members.
“In the said meeting, the notice was issued by the presiding member himself and also less than a 24-hour notice,” the Constituency Chairman of the party, Mr Wisdom Kwawu Torgby, stated in reaction to the purported vote of no confidence passed in the MCE.
No confidence vote
Ten out of the 13 assembly members in the district signed a letter to pass a no confidence vote in the MCE.
The letter, which itemised 12 points for the assembly members’ action, among other things, accused the MCE of disrespecting them, taking unilateral decisions and running of the assembly from a single centralised department.
It also mentioned the illegal composition of a tender review board, undermining and ignoring the sub-structures of the assembly; operating a gang of three and using divide-and-rule tactics in the assembly.
Move invalid
Mr Togby said all public elections, including those for the confirmation and removal of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs), were to be conducted by an official of the Electoral Commission (EC).
“The meeting that was purportedly held to pass the ‘no confidence vote’ in the honourable municipal chief executive never had an officer of the EC invited to conduct the election, making the resolution and the decision arising out of the meeting and the resolution very irregular,” he stressed.

Mr Torgby, therefore, condemned the action of the assembly members, insisting that “we cannot sit down for a group of assembly members to write a petition passing a vote of no confidence in our hard-working honourable chief executive.”
Parochial interest
In a statement, the constituency executives appealed to the appointing authority of MMDCEs to exercise restraint in acceding to the demands of the aggrieved assembly members.
