NPP slams 2025 Budget, accuses government of prioritising bureaucracy over development

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has criticised the 2025 national budget, alleging that allocations to the Office of the President surpass funding for youth development, agriculture, and women’s programmes combined.

Addressing the press on March 26, 2025, in Accra, the NPP Communications Director Richard Ahiagbah accused the Mahama administration of prioritising bureaucracy over productivity and job creation.

“The Office of the President is getting over GH¢3.1 billion. That’s more than what the entire agriculture sector, the youth employment initiatives, and women’s programmes are receiving combined,” he stated.

According to Mr Ahiagbah, the spending plan contradicts the government’s own policy commitments, particularly the 24-hour economy initiative, which he argued lacks clear funding.

“If the government truly believed in jobs, farming, or empowering women, the numbers in the budget would reflect that. Instead, the money is going to administrative overheads while real sectors struggle,” he said.

The NPP has urged Parliament to review the budget and reallocate funds towards initiatives that could stimulate employment and drive economic growth.
