PPP youth leader molested by NACOB officials at KIA
The youth leader of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) was on Saturday night detained by officials of the Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) at the Kotoka International Airport.
Mr Divine Nkrumah and his deputy, Nii Armah, arrived at the airport on a South African Airways Flight FA52 from South Africa where they had spent six days attending a conference for youth leaders of political parties in Africa held in the rainbow nation.
They, together with their Deputy General Secretary, Paa Kow, participated in the event.
Upon arrival at the country’s airport at 9:15 p.m. last Saturday, Mr Nkrumah was approached by some officials of the NACOB who immediately snatched his passport and pushed him out of a queue in the arrival hall.
The extent of molestations from the NACOB officials, he narrated to Adomonline.com, attracted the attention of all passengers and workers at the arrival lounge, who expressed wonder as to what his crime was.
“When I complained, I was told that my passport is a state property, hence they reserved the right to take it from me...,” he said.
He said his deputy, Nii Armah, who also complained about the abuse of his (Nkumah’s) rights had his passport seized after which he and Divine were escorted to an isolated room at the airport.
Mr Nkrumah continued that though they had finished scanning their luggage, his luggage was re-scanned in the isolated room and he was forced to go through two different body scans.
His urine samples, he said, were also taken and his electronic gadgets, including his Ipad and phones, seized as well.
He said despite all checks proving negative, the NACOB officials, led by an official he named as Vincent Asiedu, made them sit in the isolated room for two more hours.
“Vincent Asiedu told us he was awaiting an order from one commander whom he did not name, before releasing us...”, he added.
That command for their release eventually came and they were escorted back to the arrival hall after 11: 55 p.m. local time without any explanations whatsoever.
