Youth urged not to foment trouble

A student teacher of the Akropong College of Education, Mr Effah Benson Elliot, has advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used to foment trouble.
He explained that as youth, they have a major role to play in the socio-economic development of the nation but if care was not taken, their attention would be diverted to what would not benefit them and the nation.
‘’We the youth have a major stake in the affairs of the nation but at times for the sake of some coins that politicians give us, we allow ourselves to be used to foment trouble,” Mr Effah stressed.
He noted that such actions were not helping cohesiveness of the nation, especially the youth.
He asked if the youth had ever seen the politicians they sacrificed for ever used their own children to foment trouble.
Mr Effah said, “ for all we know their children might even be outside this country and when they lured us and we cause trouble and the country is on fire, their children are safe and we shall face the music, so let us be wise,’’ he emphasised.
Mr Effah made the observation at an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) meeting organised by National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) at Adenta, near Accra.
The meeting was organised to elect stakeholders on election disputes as a way of enhancing the culture of political tolerance.
He made reference to the recent election petition where some of his colleagues were nearly lured to take certain actions which was not in the interest of the country.
Police Inspector, Ms Charlotte Baaku, a member of Adenta Municipal IPDC, assured the public that enough security measures had been put in place at the Adenta area to protect lives and property from armed robbers.
She said four main check points have been erected at the Ashaley Botwe school junction; Aviation Road; Dodowa-Adenta road and Ayi-Mensah-Pantang road to curb the activities of armed robbers.
Inspector Baaku advised residents at Adenta to mount street lights to brighten every part of their streets as means of scaring thieves and robbers.
The Adenta Municipal Inter-Party Dialogue Committee Chairman, Mr Kwame Obeng Fosu, said in order to bring peace and development in the municipality ,IPDC had been replicated at the polling station levels where all key political parties and identifiable groups were represented on the committee at the grassroot level.
Madam Zainabu Azumah Braimah, Adenta Municipal Director of NCCE, earlier in her welcome address, said dispute adjudication appeared to be one of the potential test cases for the progress of democracy.
She said there was, therefore, the growing awareness among Ghanaians of the need to nip in the bud anything that would derail prevailing peace in the Adenta Municipality and the country as a whole.
