Alloway laid to rest

Almost the entire Bukom township and the boxing fraternity last Saturday converged on the home of lengendary boxing coach Godwin Nii Dzanie Kotey, aka Alloway, to bid him an emotional farewell.

Dignitaries at the funeral included Nii Lante Vnaderpuye, the Minister of Youth and Sports, the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Okoe Vanderpuye, boxing legend. Azumah Nelson and former world champions Ike Quartey and Joshua Clottey.

Alloway was instrumental in the development of the likes of Joshua Clottey, Azumah Nelson, Joseph Agbeko and George Ashie.

The president of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Peter Zwennes, paid glowing tribute to the departed boxer and noted that the 56-year-old coach contributed immensely to the sport.

“He groomed a lot of talents and offered many youth in the Bukom and James Town area great opportunities in the disicpline,” he stated.
