Bishop announces Ghana Boxing Federation executive board bid

An American-Ghanaian businessman, Dave Bishop, has announced a bold ambition to join the administration of Ghanaian amateur boxing by contesting for a place on the Executive Board of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) in the upcoming elections on December 27.

The amateur boxing governing body in this country goes to the polls two days after Christmas to elect a President, two Vice-Presidents, a Treasurer and two executives to run the GBF until December 2029. 

Nomination and Delegates Registration forms were opened last Thursday, December 4, and will end this coming Friday, December 12, with an Executive Meeting to review and assess the election process at the national secretariat, Accra Sports Stadium, on Saturday, December 13. 

Collection of Register and Delegate list by successful candidates is next Monday, December 15, ahead of the elections on Saturday, December 27.

Mr Bishop, CEO of boxing syndicate, Bishop Boxing Promotions, and a devout philantropist who believes in graasroots development, a Ghanaian citizen and an enstooled a Development Chief of Nyanfeku Ekroful in the Central Region, under the stool name Nana Ekow Amu I, is determined to fuse his 47 years of experience in entertainment and sports promotion with his passion for Ghanaian boxing and community development to shine a spotlight on some of Ghana’s brightest young prospects by working from the inside.

He has listed four key commitments he will bring on board to help transform the activities of the GBF and to harness and develop Ghana's future boxing stars to their best abilities.

These are Youth and Community, Promoter and Sport Growth, Philanthropy and Welfare and Community and Governance.

"I will champion the establishment of boxing hubs, mentorship, scholarships and nationwide talent identification with safe sport education for the youth and community," Dave Bishop explained to Graphic Sports.

"As a promoter who wants to see the sport grow, there will be more local/regional cards, fair matchmaking, transparent rankings, and coach/referee development. As well, we shall take care of the fighters’ welfare fund, NGO/corporate partnerships and emergency relief grants," he said on the second and third commitments.

"The community governance shall include renovation of gyms, building multi-use centres, boosting local events and jobs, ensuring transparent budgets, inclusive representation, and annual audits. Vote Dave Bishop on December 27," he stated.
