Black Stars to face Germany in pre-world cup friendly in Stuttgart

Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, will lock horns with Germany in a pre-World Cup international friendy on   Monday, March 30, 2026, in Stuttgart.

The match, set for an 8:45 pm kickoff, forms part of preparations by both teams ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States.

In a statement, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said the friendly will offer valuable competitive exposure as both sides fine-tune their squads and tactical setups ahead of the global showpiece.

Germany’s head coach, Julian Nagelsmann, expressed anticipation ahead of the encounter, noting that Ghana’s style of play would provide a useful test. “We are very much looking forward to the clash with Otti’s team. Their strong transition play can give us a taste of what to expect in the World Cup group match against Ivory Coast,” he said.

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo also welcomed the fixture, describing it as a major opportunity for his side. “This is an amazing opportunity for us to test ourselves against one of the best teams in the world. Germany are a very good side and we can’t wait to face them in Stuttgart,” he stated.

Ghana booked qualification to the 2026 World Cup in convincing fashion, emerging as group winners, and will compete in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

The upcoming friendly will mark the fourth meeting between Ghana and Germany. Their first encounter was a friendly match in Bochum in 1993, which Germany won 6–1.

The two sides later met at the World Cup on two occasions, Germany secured a 1–0 victory in the group stage at the 2010 tournament in South Africa, while their 2014 World Cup clash in Brazil ended in a 2–2 draw.
