CAF African Schools Football Championship: Winning start for Ghana’s teams
Ghana’s U-15 boys’ team made a confident start to their 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship campaign by securing a 2-0 victory over Uganda on Wednesday at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon.
It was double joy for the hosts as Ghana’s U-15 girls’ team kicked off their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Morocco yesterday through midfielder Jennifer Awuku’s second-half strike to secure all three points for the Ghanaians in a clash played over two 20-minute halves.
The Ghanaian girls will return to action today with a clash against Benin at noon, followed by a group finale against Malawi later in the day.
In the boys’ opening clash, winger John Andor emerged as the star of the match, netting both goals in a dominant display by Ghana.
Andor’s first goal was a stunning strike that left the opposing goalkeeper rooted on his line, while his second goal came as a result of a goalkeeping error, sealing a well-deserved win for the host nation.
Despite making their debut in the tournament, the Ghanaian side showed impressive maturity and tactical discipline to claim all three points at stake.
The young Ghanaian team will be in action this morning with a clash against South Africa (kick-off is scheduled at 11:00 a.m.), followed by a decisive match against Algeria at 3:00 p.m.
In yesterday's other Group A game, Tanzania drew 1-1 with Senegal in the Boys Division, while South Africa overpowered Algeria 2-0.
In the Girls' Division, Uganda beat South Africa 1-0, while Benin also edged Malawi 1-0.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football has announced free entry to all matches in the April 23 – 26 tournament to enable spectators to enjoy the high-energy youth tournament without the need for tickets.
