‘Dogboe, Commey world champions in waiting’ - Peter Zwennes
Peter Zwennes, the President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), says Isaac Dogboe and Richard Commey ‘are world champions in waiting’, insisting the two boxers are the nation's surest bets to win world titles by the end of the year.
The GBA boss claimed the two boxers are in pole positions to annex their upcoming world championships for the country by the close of the year, given their consistent and steady rise in their careers with improved performances fight after fight.
Dogboe (18-0) is scheduled to challenge champion Jessie Magdaleno (25-0, 18 KOs) for the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Jnr featherweight title on April 14, following a fifth-round technical knockout victory over Cesar Juarez last January 6.

Commey (26-2, 23 KOs) on the other hand, put up a splendid performance against Alejandro Luna (22-1, 15 KOs) after stopping the American in round six to earn a technical knockout victory which will see him challenge Robert Easter Jnr in a rematch later this year.
While Zwennes was confident of the chances of Dogboe and Commey in winning world championship fights this year, he told the Graphic Sports he did not think the likes of Duke Micah, Frederick Lawson and Raphael Mensah were ready to be world- beaters.
When asked about the chances of Lawson (26-1, 21 KOs) and Micah (21-0, 18 KOs) to secure world titles this year, Zwennes noted that the duo were close to landing a shot at such bouts but predicted next year as an ideal time for them.
Lawson will be competing in the WBC Jose Sulaiman World Invitational tournament in the United State of America(USA) on April 27 while undefeated Micah on the other hand will be returning to the ring on April 25, against a yet to be announced opponent.
‘‘From the way they have proved themselves, I strongly think Dogboe and Commey are our surest bets to win world titles this year because they have the chances at their disposal. Lawson, Micah and Mensah still have a long way to go.
‘‘We will all be in Las Vegas to support Dogboe against Magdaleno on April 14, and then I expect to do same for Commey when the date and venue for his fight against Easter Jnr is confirmed later this year," he said.
