Drogba considering retirement to join Chelsea backroom staff

Didier Drogba is considering ending his playing career to aid a move back to Chelsea as part of Guus Hiddink's backroom staff - but reports of him having retired are wide of the mark.

Reports surfaced last Wednesday night that the Stamford Bridge icon had informed his club Montreal Impact of his decision, but the club and the player's representatives say those are wide off the mark.

Drogba wrote on Twitter: 'I have not yet announced my retirement & am still in discussion with @impactmontreal about my future.'

Hanging up his boots does, however, remains an option for Drogba, 37, as he looks to seal a second return to Chelsea.

Doing so would cut short his 18-month Impact contract just six months after he joined the MLS side following his second Chelsea exit.

The Barclays Premier League champions have held talks with Drogba in a bid to add his valuable experience to a troubled dressing room.

The Impact have admitted the situation is out of their control after their striker was seen in the stands during Chelsea's win over Sunderland last month.

They deny that Drogba has contacted club president Joey Saputo to confirm he will be leaving. DailyMail
